Try a Chapter Book Tag: Romance

Romance novels are on the rise at the moment, I've been seeing a lot of romance recommendations on Booktube and book sites. Contemporary romance is not my go to genre anymore but when I used to read romances I usually gravitate towards authors like; Susan Donovan, Lori Foster, Victotia Dahl, Donna Kauffman and Julia Quinn just to name a few. I also love the book covers of newer romances, the colorful covers are vey enticing especially for new romance readers who may be put off by a more racy book cover. I think that's a good marketing strategy. I know some people have a different idea regarding that so let me know what you think and comment below.

I have gathered 10 romance books that looks good and interesting to me and decided to do a try a chapter tag. Check out the results below also let me know if you liked some of the books that I decided not to read. 😊

The Kiss Quotient

BUY

I am already skeptical of the premise of the pretend relationship trope but the power dynamics of the main characters seems really interesting to me. Reading the first chapter though made me not go through with the book, Stella's musings about how uncomfortable sex is and the constant mention of sex in a kind of crude way made me not enjoy her voice. This is just not what I'm looking for, obviously a lot of people enjoyed this book so I skimmed through it to see if only the first chapter is putting me off but alas this is just not the romance for me.

The Hating Game

BUY

This book is well written, the structure is very articulate and smart and really wordy unfortunately that is not what I'm looking for as well. I'm so sorry for being finicky but I don't want to read a romance book that is almost 400 pages long. Can I just say though the corporate atmosphere is so spot on, reading a side note about KPI in this book made me chuckle a bit, if you're working in a corporate environment you'll know what I mean.

The Friend Zone ⭕️

BUY

I did not get much by reading the first two chapters so I looked up the synopsis and figured I'm giving this a chance. I hope that this book will handle the topic of infertility in a good way, if not I'll probably end up not finishing this.

Fight or Flight

BUY

I only had to read three paragraphs of this to say NO. The main character is so entitled and annoying that I'm sure I will not enjoy this book.

Waiting for Tom Hanks ⭕️

BUY

The writing is very tongue in cheek I would say but I like the premise so I'm giving it a shot, Annie is a film major graduate who is obsessed with romcom movies of the 90s and it just so happen that a movie is filming in their town and she tries to get a job in the movie, that's how far I've read into it.

Fix Her Up ⭕️

BUY

This is actually the book I chose for purple cover in The Reading Rush readathon because Chelsea, a booktuber that I follow swears by this book and loved it a lot. Reading the first chapter I would say this is more of the typical romance book and uses a lot of romance tropes like little sister to lover, famous jock main character.

Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating ⭕️

BUY

In this book, we get to read each characters narration which made me think of how similar this approach is to Meet Cute. If you don't know already which I highly doubt, this is a written by a tandem, Christin and Lauren. I imagine they might be writing each character narratives, I think that is interesting so I decided to give it a go.

The Wedding Date ⭕️

BUY

Again, another pretend relationship, this is the least romance trope that I like because if this was real life then you're just setting yourselves up for heartbreak, I'm just saying. Hmmm, I'm skeptical but will give it a chance.

Meet Cute ⭕️

BUY

Promising. I liked the parts where they are in college and Kailyn is such a geek having a crush on Daxton, this is also a rivals to lovers romance.

The Unhoneymooners ⭕️

BUY

Saved the best for last. I have gotten to chapter 3 and would have continued reading if not for my existing TBR for the readathon. The best out of the ten so far. This is another hate to love trope and I can't help but smile to Olive's and Ethan's banters.

Seven out of ten! Not bad, I thought I would end up axing more however I could still end up DNFing some of these. Please watch out for my Try a Chapter Wrap up, I don't know when that's going to be but I will definitely post one!

Sunday Post: Another Year Ending and Other Bookish Updates

I can't believe that 2019 is almost over. I am so sad that I did not get to a lot of my goals this year, I was only able to read 27 books so far and I don't think I could reach my goal of 50 but I will definitely try to do my best to do that. I also have a lot of plans for my blog that did not materialize but there's still next year so I don't feel too bad about that. I recently spruced up my shelves and removed a lot of books that I did not finish - check my post here . My TBR is now down to 456 books which could be better if I have not been adding more books this year, click here if you want to see my book hauls for this year. I will be postponing my Short Story Reading Project and move it to next year because I want to focus on finishing my backlog of books. One of the things that I will be prioritizing is my Try a Chapter Book Tag - Horror picks because I do want to join the Fraterfest 2019 Readathon . I will also try to finish the books recommended to me by ...

Try a Chapter Book Tag: Horror

As fall arrives, my favorite season, I find myself drawn to darker books that perfectly complement the atmosphere. Recently, I've had the pleasure of finishing a few spooky reads that I highly recommend if you're seeking something not overly terrifying. These include "Tunnel of Bones" by Victoria Schwab, "The Screaming Staircase" by Jonathan Stroud, "The Raven Boys" by Maggie Stiefvater, "Coraline" by Neil Gaiman, and "The Devouring Gray" by Christine Lynn Herman. Currently, I'm engrossed in "The Turn of the Screw" by Henry James. Although I primarily selected books categorized as horror rather than paranormal mysteries or thrillers, it's important to note that they aren't hardcore, gory horror stories. Instead, they offer atmospheric ghostly tales that leave a lingering sense of unease. I've set a personal goal to complete these nine chosen books by the end of November and share an update with all ...
